This CD-ROM follows the
development of the blues from the music of field hollers and the
chants of American slaves to the "big city" blues of the 1920's and
the birth of "rhythm and blues" and "rock and roll." History of the
Blues is filled with musical examples and
covers such performers as Blind Lemon Jefferson, Muddy Waters, B.B.
King and Aretha Franklin. Distinct styles of blues are examined as
they relate to the introduction of the guitar, the piano, and later,
of electronic amplification. Students can choose from four topics:
"Roots," "Twelve-Bar Blues," "Classic Blues," and "City Blues." If
they wish to research more specific topics they can use the
comprehensive index. A biography provides general information on the
artists.
